Tetragrammaton live on Henry Rollins show part 2

I love this song, I even tried to learn the opening bit and can play it really slowly with many mistakes.
The song can be found on their 3rd album, Amputechture.

The 4 fields of Industrial Design

Here is an interesting read from core77.

The comments make for some interesting reading. Im too much of a noob to comment myself, all sides have good arguments.

In summary the writer says there are 4 fields of ID.

Commercial - Where you design to make money
Responsible - This is where designers want to make something that will benefit society, I think this is what most designers want to do but get stuck in the commercial side coz thats the way life is.
Experimental - This is more art than design. It pushes boundaries but probably isnt the most practical solution to a problem. Actually there probably wasnt a problem in the first place.
Discursive - This is like Experimental design with practicality. So it could also combine elements from Responisble and Commercial design.

Actually they all can 'overlap' as put in the article. However if you read the comments you see that many people disagree with this categorization of design, alot more seem to like it though. Like I said at the start Im not sure about it all.

Oh Monty!

Hello, my name is Mr. Snrub. And I come from, uh... someplace far away.
Yes, that'll do.
Anyway, I say we invest that money back in the nuclear plant.

Air purifiers and stuff

Dyson Air Multiplyer fan and Airblade hand dryer

I was looking up stuff and came across this thing. I was curious about how it worked and found a video which explained from the man himself, James Dyson.
There are more videos on Youtube, including one with baloons!

Fascinating stuff, although alot of comments about it seem very negative. Most people say he is just re inventing products, and making something that costs a little cost alot etc.

If I had money Id definately get one over a normal fan with blades. Cost will be a massive factor but Dyson made vacuums that cost more than competitors and still owned them after some time. Even my mum bought a Dyson vacuum...after her old finally blew up, and prices went down.

That is the Dyson Airblade. Theres one at Central station in the public toilet. I think its cool. Once again using some interesting technology and it works pretty good.
This site will explain more.

Workshopped 10

What's a Sprek?

I dunno. Lets look at wikipedia. Sprek.

I saw this at Chifley Plaza and it reminded me of the fallout games and bioshock. I like it!

The future of motoring

So many memories from The Simpsons.

In fact that whole episode shows how important research, design and proper leadership of a large company are extremely important parts of a successful business. Also it is funny.

Another thing, The Simpsons predicted the US car market to fail miserably way before it actually happened, we all knew the Japanese car makers were far better, but people just turned a blind eye and refused acknowledge it. Infuriating, and yet it keeps happening with everything.

Panasonic Nano Care EH-SA42 beauty appliance

Hmm interesting, a little humidifier thingy.

Also heres an interesting article, which ties in with the above product, as well as female manager types as well as Japanese work place stuff.

Cant find much info about the product or how it works thought. Maybe its just marketing, like with dustbuster vacuums or whatever.

Vitamin C infused in air filter helps skin

I was reading the Drive section of SMH when I came upon a story about Nissan using Vitamin C in air filters to moisturise skin. I thought it sounded outageous but the scientists say it works on mice. Maybe this can be applied to my target market.

ID20: 20 years of Industrial Design at UNSW

Today I went to the red centre to have a look at this exhibition. It was interesting to see all the work done by students of the last 20 years. Also to look back at projects that we were doing last year or the year before.

Childfree

These are people who choose to live without kids and who dont want kids. ie. Childless by choice.

Other sites: The child free life
Some wiki stuff of DINK's.

It seems to be quite a popular choice of life for people in India and China, mainly with people who have come from working class backgrounds and are now considered middle class.

I think choosing DINK's who choose to remain childless rather than those who cant have kids is probably the better choice for this project.

A table comparing DINK's with other groups.
